Alacati Beach Resort - A Boutique Holiday Village - The Turkish Windsurf Riviera:
Alacati(Alaçati,Agrilia), a unique
Mediterranean town on the Western coast of Turkey, which
has been famous for its architecture, vineyards and
windmills for over 150 years has now made its name in
the world of windsurfing and kitesurfing, with its crystal
clear water, consistent and steady wind (for an average
of 300 days a year) and well acclaimed Turkish hospitality.
Discovery and
Development of Alacati as The Turkish Windsurf Riviera:
In
1977, there was six of us (Engin, Ismet, Peter, Klaus,
Ingo Bührer and Skip Bruce LILLEY), trying to discover
the best windy area in the Cesme peninsula. Thanks to
Skip, we ended up in Alacati bay, a no man's land, but
an incredibly interesting place, a paradise waiting
to be developed. So by early 1980's, we had already
purchased over 100,000 square metres of land on both
side of the bay. Our intention was to develop a first
class holiday village, and Horwath&Horwath of London-England
was employed to do the feasibility study. Extreme wind
conditions in winter, were considered as the biggest
obstacle and the cause of a short touristic season in the Cesme peninsula.
But extreme wind conditions became the biggest attraction
for Alacati with its perfect windsurfing conditions.
Discovering Alacati was easy,
the bay was perfect and so was the wind, but developing
Alacati was not that easy, nature was and still is the
biggest obstacle as the Lodos (South) wind in winter,
moves the sand on the South beach inland. The sand covers
and destroys all the plantation, and also creates a
very unstable ground for construction of buildings,
but despite all obstacles, we believed in developing
and presenting Alacati to the world of windsurfing,
kitesurfing and all the other water sports. At present, there are 2 beach Clubs. With their restaurants,
bars, cafe's and beach and water sports facilities,
they both serve all windsurfers, kitesurfers and other
water sport lovers. The thermal
spa water will also be available to all visitors in
2006. Open air spa-water swimming pools are planned
in both hotel and the windsurf area.
Once the "Alacati" name became popular,
naturally others moved in to become part of what we
had created in Alacati. Every single detail of AWP's
setup has become a guideline book for others. We sincerely
thank everybody for helping and encouraging us in developing
Alacati Windsurfers' Paradise as the Turkish Windsurf
Riviera.
As of June 2006, construction of ALAÇATI BEACH
RESORT, a 5 star holiday village, has been completed, as per approved both by the Ministry of Tourism
and the local municipality.
Babylon-Alaçatı has opened its doors to music and beach lovers within ALAÇATI BEACH
RESORT.For further details please click for the ALAÇATI BEACH RESORT web site. ...
Thanks to AWP's efforts and guidance, Alacati bay is
controlled by the Sport's Council of Cesme. Our plans have been accepted and the bay is now officially recognized
as a windsurfing and kitesurfing bay. All other water
sports like waterski, wakeboarding etc are absolutely
forbidden and a maximum 3 miles per hour speed limit
is set for all boats within the Alacati bay.
