Appendix A - Scoring
(See rule 88.3)
A1 General Scoring Rules
These rules apply regardless of the scoring system in effect.
A1.1 FAILURE TO START
OR FINISH
When the race committee scores a board as failing to start or
to finish it need not protest it.
A1.2 BOARD RETIRING OR
DISQUALIFIED AFTER FINISHING
When a board retires or is disqualified after finishing, each
board that finishes after it shall be moved up one place.
A1.3 SCORES NOT EXCLUDABLE
(DISCARDS)
When a scoring system provides that one or more race scores
are to be excluded in calculating a board's series score, the
score for disqualification under rule 2, Fair Sailing, shall
not be excluded.
A1.4 NUMBERING OF RACES
Races shall be numbered sequentially in the order of completion.
A1.5 SCORES REMOVED FROM
ALL OR PART OF A SERIES
When a board is penalized by having its scores removed from
the results of some or all races of a series, no changes shall
be made in the race scores of other boards.
A2 Scoring System - Course, Slalom
and Long Distance
The following Low Point Scoring System will be used.

& Speed) see eliminations ladders.
(a) All competitors
who do not start in a heat, who start and thereafter retire,
who do not finish, who finish and thereafter retire or who
are disqualified, score the points awarded to the last possible
finishing position in that heat. In a race, long distance
or speed round these same competitors score points equal to
the number of registered competitors in their division plus
one.

A2.1
PRINCIPLES OF SCORING
The Race Committee can chose from two basic principles.
(a) IFCA System:
All the races or elimination series in the disciplines Course,
Slalom, Wave and freestyle are scored separately to produce
a final discipline result. Then all the discipline results
are added together to produce an overall event result, or
(b) Racing System: All races and elimination
series are scored evenly: one upwind race = one downwind race
= one long distance race = one elimination series. In two
discipline events, the weighting of disciplines is 40% for
Wave Performance and 60% for Race.
In all systems, the board score in a discipline
will be the total of its races and/or elimination series,
excluding the discard(s).
A2.2 DISCIPLINE SCORING
The minimum number of races or elimination
series to constitute a valid discipline scoring at an event
is:
(a) Course &
slalom: one course race, or one slalom, which is considered
valid when the field has been reduced to the last 8 competitors
if more than 32 (40) participants and until a final is completed
if 32 (40) or less participants.
(b) Wave Performance: one single elimination
series, which is considered valid when the field has been
reduced to the last 16 competitors if more than 32 (40) participants
and/or the last 4 competitors if 32 (40) or less participants.
(c) Speed: one round, which is considered
valid when, after the course has been opened and a board has
been recorded 5 times at a speed of 25 knots or more on an
'on shore course' or 5 times the speed of 28 knots or more
on an 'off shore course'.
A2.3 OVERALL RANKING AT AN EVENT
The overall ranking in a two-discipline
event is calculated by awarding 0.7 points for the first in
an individual discipline, 2 points for the second, etc. To
calculate the overall score refer to rule A2.1. The lowest
total score wins.
A2.4 DISCIPLINE TIES
When there is a tie in an individual discipline
between two or more boards the tie will be broken in favour
of.
(a) the board
who has beaten the other more times, if the tie remains,
(b) the board with the most first
places, or, if the tie remains, the most second places, or
lower places if necessary.
(c) when the tie remains, it will
be broken in favor of the board with the best score in the
last race in which the tied boards raced and scored differently,
(d) if the tie remains, it shall stand
as the final result.
A2.5 OVERALL TIES
When there is a tie in total points overall,
the tie shall be broken in favour of.
(a) the competitor
who has beaten the other in more diciplines, if the tie remains,
(b) in favour of the competitor with
the greater number of discipline firsts, seconds, and so on.
The results of races and heats shall be ignored, and if the
tie remains, it shall stand as the final result.
A2.6 SCORING OF UNCOMPLETED HEATS
When the final can not be sailed, the finalists
shall be scored as follows. The points for the unscored places
shall all be added together and then divided by the number
of places. The resulting number of points, rounded down to
the nearest single decimal place, shall be awarded to each
competitor.

A4 Redress
If under rule 64.2 the protest committee decides to change

tenth of a point (0.05 to be rounded upward), of its points
in all the races in the series except (its worst and) the
race in question or

at the time of the incident that justified the redress.
